Using Hypnosis To Stop Smoking – Three Methods
Friday, September 10th, 2010Using hypnosis to stop smoking is one of the most common uses of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. And more than simply a common use, it is also one of the most effective uses of hypnosis. In most cases, a single hypnosis session is all that is required to kick the smoking habit, though some people do enjoy additional and ongoing support if they have a particularly bad habit of many packs a day.
Your smoking habit is not merely a physical addition, it’s a mental one. The act of quitting can be difficult, but hypnosis can help you stop smoking by addressing your habit, not just your physical addiction, and by reprogramming your mind to make the process easier. But where to start? There are three possible ways to stop smoking with hypnosis:
1.) Find a hypnotist in your area to work with one-on-one.
If you are comfortable in front of others, enjoy confiding in a therapist, and can let yourself completely relax in the presence of another person, you may benefit from seeing a hypnotist one-on-one. In-office visits are effective, but can get pricey very fast. They can be expensive to start, and if you want more than one session – as many people do, simply because it relieves a great deal of stress – that’s more money that you have to pay for each visit.
2.) Sign up for a local group session.
Visiting hypnotists often rent out large banquet facilities and advertise in the local paper. That’s what a group session is. You pay a fee, along with dozens to hundreds of other people, and you all congregate at the same time and place to receive treatment as a group from the hypnotist. It’s successful for some people, but if you are at all shy, reserved or uncomfortable letting yourself relax in front of an entire crowd of people, this might not be the method for you. Though usually affordable, it’s not terribly personal, and really does take a highly suggestible personality.
3.) Listen to a hypnosis program at-home.
Perhaps the easiest, most affordable and most successful method for most smokers is to use an at-home method. The big benefit is the fact that it’s private, unlike the other two methods. You use the program in your time, in the privacy of your own home, and you don’t have to force yourself to relax in front of other people you don’t know. There’s no awkward, uncomfortable feeling, and you can listen to the program as many times as you like, without paying anything extra – that’s simply not an option with the other methods.
Even if other methods have failed you, hypnosis can help by addressing your problem at the source. The key is to choose the method that works best for you, your style and your wallet. Once you commit to quitting, there’s nothing standing in the way of success!
