Figuring Out High School Football Recruiting

Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

Knowing high school football recruiting is essential for any coach, administrator, parent, or student who is in the process or has to help the process along. You need to be totally informed so that your students or students can get a fair shake at the college level.

There are so many people out there who do nothing but recruiting all the time. You will find them at games and practices, and they do not tend to stop scouting. So, you need to know what resources they use to learn about your players.

Since you need the best information, you need to start looking at trade papers and publications that talk about stats and other characteristics that are valued in high school players. Knowing what people are saying about your players will help them to improve on their game.

Knowing how the scouts operate is also a crucial piece of the puzzle. You want to see what they know about your kids and how they know it. The perception of the players can be very easy to fix or change if you are getting the inside information on what schools think about a certain person.

You need to check out some of the scouts, talk to them, and build relationships so that you always have an ‘in’ with someone who helps to make the decisions. This is especially important for parents and families that cannot afford school, and a college football scholarship would help that so much.

The recruitment process is very long, but it does not have to be hard. You will be able to learn all you need to know by talking to scouts, meeting up with them, checking out stats, and learning what is being said on the grapevine. All of that will help your player get a better offer.
